Doctor Drowley is a Salovet natural philosopher, alchemist, and traveling purveyor of curative distillations whose reputation drifts through caravan routes somewhere between respected scholar and theatrical fraud. A former academic turned frontier wanderer, he now crosses hostile desert territories in search of trade, experimentation, and perhaps vindication.
The Salovets — or Salocines, as Drowley insists with predictable pedantry — are amphibious people adapted to marsh climates, with smooth skin, elongated limbs, and ornamental branchial frills framing the face like elaborate gills. Drowley’s flamboyant appearance only reinforces his reputation as equal parts scientist, salesman, and stage magician.
Despite the polished manners and extravagant titles, he remains deeply distrustful of academic institutions, preferring practical experimentation and field work over the rigid traditions of formal scholarship. In isolated frontier settlements, his arrival can mean medicine, salvation… or trouble.
At the center of his work rests the mysterious “Mother-Mix,” an ornate flask worn close to the chest, containing a swirling substance Drowley refuses to properly explain.
This piece was an opportunity to explore a character somewhere between frontier medicine, occult science, and eccentric Victorian showmanship — blending traveling apothecaries, weird western aesthetics, antique machinery, and amphibian physiology into a single design.
