[CHARACTER DESIGN] H.G. Wells' The First man on the Moon

This is the first development stage for the cover I made for Harper Collins "The First Men in the Moon" by H.G. Wells. The publisher wanted a more modern approach with a steam punk flavor so I started by giving two options for both main characters, one following the books description and the "light" steam punk so a good comparison could be made and decided to which extent the steam punk feel could be pushed.

For the selenites, I wanted to go beyond their insectoid description and bring some popular modern view on extraterrestrial life, going more for the ufology grey/praying mantis look. Moreover, I followed the book descriptions on their gear and weapons and did some work on their different classes even though I Knew I wouldn't go too far into the book story for the cover since it had to have both main characters and at some point they get apart from each other.
